This spirit is best experienced around the dinner table with a bowl of cachupa, the national dish. It is a slow-cooked corn, bean, and meat stew meant to be shared generously with family, neighbors, and passing strangers alike.

Beautiful Country

Cabo Verde is an archipelago west of the African coastline. DACIA is moored in Mindelo, a beautiful little town on the island of Sao Vicente. The fishing takes place in the lee of this island, or Santo Antao or Sao Nicloau. Breathtaking views as we run near the cliffs of Sao Vicente and spend the night in Tarrafal.

Food

Cachupa is the beloved national dish of Cabo Verde, reflecting the islands' Creole history through a slow-cooked, hearty stew of corn, beans, cassava, and sweet potatoes, often enriched with local sausage (chouriço) or fish. Given the archipelago's Atlantic location, fresh seafood is a daily staple, featuring grilled tuna, octopus (polvo), and lobster, typically seasoned with garlic, lime, and local chili paste. The culinary experience is rounded out by sweet tropical desserts like papaya jelly paired with goat cheese, and washed down with grogue, a potent traditional rum distilled from local sugarcane.
